Hidden Keel © Racehorse Photos Yesterday I put up the first of ten horses to follow for the forthcoming jumps season. Today I have a couple more to add to the list. Firstly, I would like to include the Charlie Longsden trained Hidden Keel.

This horse was impressive in a couple of chase wins at Exeter and although beaten a long way by Medermit in the Scilly Isles Novices chase at Sandown he shaped well for a long way and is much better than the actual result.

He is a bold and quick jumper who on his final start last season easily beat Rougham who had won a class three Novices chase at Ascot earlier in the season. Hidden Keel is a bright prospect who has plenty of speed and may well not want to go any further than two and a half miles, I even think he may be worth a go at two miles in decent company.

A very enjoyable read. An interesting look at the work of a modern day punter. Who makes a good living from his not the norm methods of multiple betting.

The book made the modern day world of Internet betting , Spread betting etc. an area that is worth consideration for those of the old school. No road to riches for the novice punter to be found amongst these pages as Dave's actual methods receive scant coverage.

However what is more than useful is an indication of the attitude of mind that is required to make your betting pay. That alone may be worth the books cost providing you get it at a value price. I have always been fascinated by gambling and horse-racing so this book was eagerly awaited.

Many punters look up to Nevison as somebody who, if not quite living the dream, has managed to fund a decent lifestyle on the strength of his betting prowess. He makes it clear in the book that there are no shortcuts on the road to backing winners and it's refreshing to read his honest opinions.

Media coverage of racing seems to be choc-a-bloc with fence-sitters but you certainly won't find much of that in here - he's frank, opinionated and enjoyable to read.

My dad who's in his eighties loved it too. If this is the sort of thing that interests you then it is well worth a read. Have always been fascinated by people who make their living from horse racing.

Takes a very special type of person in my opinion. If you haven't got the right temperament. It always amazes me reading other reviews that people expect to be spoonfed some amazing winning system that will turn them into millionaires, it's not going to happen!

What this book is, is a well written account of an 'old school' professional punter. Its easy reading and hard to put down, I like the way he interjects sound betting advise using a tissue etc with lurid stories of various escapades around the country.

An interesting book around a successful partnership - shows the importance of finding the range of winners of a race and betting the range in a way to ensure a profit. Food for thought and a great yarn from a real life character.
